l Charles L. Smith Founder and President Charles Smith 40+ years of experience working and living within the Cambridge community has really placed him among the region 's top architect/builders and real estate specialists. Since receiving two Master 's Degrees from Harvard University 's Graduate School of Design, Charles has established several companies in the fields of design, construction, real estate, planning and research. In 1975, Charles created ComPlan, Inc., a professional design and planning company of architects, landscape architects, planners and civil engineers. Realizing the growing demand for market research in foreign countries, Charles decided to open up a second branch known as ComPlan de Venezuela S.A. in Caracas, Venezuela. This professional consulting company specialized in market, feasibility, and development studies and coordination from 1975 through 1980. In 1983 Charles established The Smith Group, Inc. and has been going strong ever since. The Smith Group, Inc. specializes in financial consulting, design and planning, and real estate development. By creating a sister company, Design Build-4U, Inc. in 2002, Charles is now able to provide construction and design services to his clients. By doing so, Charles not only enables those clients to purchase a house, but to turn that house into a home for their families.
